Ultranationalism

what causes ultranationalism?
how does ultranationalism develop?
how have people responded to ultranationalism?

Ultranationalism means the extreme devotion to or advocacy of the interests of a nation, especially regardless of the effect on any other nations. this meaning that during a time of the countries weakest point (most commonly), and in some way the nation is able to unite for a common cause or collective consciousness, to achieve a certain goal however this can affect other nations like the jewish people during WWII, but because of the great sense of Ultranationalism they are blinded to what is really going on.
Ultranationalism develops in many way it is most commonly developed through political and financial unrest throughout a nation, an example of this was when Germany was just coming out of their great depression, Hitler used the little bit of hatred that germany still had against the other nations to unite the people to His own cause and start WWII.

people have responded to ultranationalism in many ways, but really it depends on which side your on, in the united states they were worried that the sudden nationalism was becoming Ultranationalism and germany was plotting to achieve another W, but on the other side in germany it united the people, it brought poeple to believe in their country and try to strive to once again get germany back on top and become a world leader. However this in the end backfired and brought germany down even further than it was.

Chapter 5 vocab

For the chapter 5 tech connections vocab I will be giving the definition of the word and an example of the world as well as explaning how the example relates to the definition.

National interest: is the interest of the state usually defined by it's government

example:
this exaple relates to the definition of national interest in a few ways one the people in this picture are expressing that the views made by their government about climate change are wrong and that the actual National interest is they want to stop climate change and go to efforts to prevent climate change. nationa interest includes all the people of a nation or at least the majority or at least it should.

Peacekeepers:allowing armed forces who maintain peace by keeping enemies apartuntill the crisis can be solved.
example:

this picture is an example of the armed forces that have to be sent into situations that require enemies to be split apart or seperated till a solution arises, this however can sometimes be achieved through the use of force.

Peacemaking: allowing armed forces that were originally sent to maintain peace to use their forces for means other than self-defense

example: when the united states of america sent a team to capture osama-bin-laden but ended up taking him out, this was after they had sent in peacekeepers to help sepertate the two enemies , they eventually had to end up using the force that was originally meant for self defence for offense.

Policy: a plan of action deliberatly placed to help guide future decisions

this picture is just a funny way of showing what a policy is, basically it is a set of rules that are made to be followed that influence future events.

Foriegn policy: a plan of action that guides the government about it's official relations with other countries, also called foriegn affairs.

example: tradings goods and resources between countries or discussings deals or political  negotiations.

Domestic policy: a plan of action that guides the governments decisions about what to do within it's country.
example:
this example really relates to the definition of domestic policy, it has to do with the policies within a country like for example you cannot vote untill you reach the age of 18 and are a canadian citizen.

Gross domestic product: the value of goods and services produced in a country in a year.
example: the oil industry

this relates to the topic because the oil corporations after every year calculate their GDP in order to figure out how to increse profits and become more efficient, basically the same as governments.

How have people reconciled Nationalist and Non-Nationalist loyalties?

Many disputes between nationalist and non-nationalist loyalties cannot be reconciled easily. For example the disputes between First nations and the European settlers that came to North America. First nations were quickly become known as savages to the new European settlers and were viewed as a problem that had to be fixed. These problems have lasted between both nations for over 300 years. Many of the problems between both nations still exist today including some of the treaties involved with the first nation’s tribes of North America. It is not truthful for me to say that Canada reconciled itself with the first nations because it would not be true.  Canada has however tried to reconcile itself with the first nations by allowing the first nations to have benefits that other Canadians do not have. However it has not really substituted itself for an actual apology, within the last seven years Steven harper has however apologized for the residential schools that affected the young first nations children within the 19th and 18th century.
Sometimes I guess reconciling between two nations can be difficult to accomplish, for Canada it is almost impossible because we do not want to admit what we have done in the past and be reminded of that. However for some countries the most of an apology that we are able to give is benefits that will help better their future, in an effort to try and reconcile the past.  Lately however society has begun to mould together as both nations have become to live within both societies and problems are beginning to be reconciled even though it has taken a few centuries.
I can now see that Canada is however trying to give our country a better reputation and try and put things behind them. Also in a way Canada has become stronger from this and has grown to make everyone in Canada proud to live here. Even though there will probably be more problems that will have to be reconciled in Canada’s history like the Quebec referendum when Québec tried to separate from Canada. I believe that problems within Canada and with Canada’s associations with other countries will help going toward reconciling the past by striving for a better future.
I believe that non-nationalist loyalties and nationalist loyalties can be reconciled and that things can be put right between two nations, I am sure that there are many more examples of reconciling nationalist loyalties within almost every nations past.  That is why governments want to reconcile themselves not because of guilt, well maybe but for a better future.

What choices have people made to Affirm nationalist loyaties? Tech connections 3

For my third post I Have chosen the topic of how to affirm national loyaties. For example you could be a supporter to team Canada or a Big believer in trying to prevent litter. All of these things represent a peice of who you are But what I am really talking about is that representing your  nation and being loyal to your nation could be as simple as wearing a canada tattoo or wearing a religous item these things show how you can be loyal to your nation.

Sometimes it can be difficult supporting a nation that isn't as well known as others for example many cultures have struggled to be known and it can be hard for them to represent a nation that isn't considered a part of their country like the first nations and different cultures that have come to Canada within the last twenty years. Affirming you loyalty to your nation could be really simple things like for example going to a school were similair beliefs are valued or languages it could even be something like as I said in the first paragraph just wearing a shirt or clothing or even speaking out or making yourself known that i am a pat of this nation.

It can be harder sometimes to Affirm your identity especially if your nation hasn't been recognized yet it's the little things that you do that help affirm your national Identity and help you realize the little things that make up who you are.

what are some of the external factors that shaped french nationalism before or during the french revolution

There are many factors that shaped french nationalism during and before the french revolution. But for this blog i decided to focus on three. the three main most important factors that i belive started the french revolution Were the king's lack of leadership, the taxes given to the people of the 3rd class and what it what doing to the people and also. the famine.

the main reson that the french revolution started in the first place was because of the king's lack of leadership. From the begining of his reign even louis himself knew that he was not ready to take on his role as the king of france and i believe that the people did too. It wasn't until louis new taxes that tore the very people of france apart that people began to not trust him as a king and start to question absolute monarchy. Also aound the same time louis made probably one of the biggest mistakes he could have he called a national assembly. Basically by calling the assembly he told the people that still believed in him as a king that he is unable to run the nation of france by himself and that he needs help. It was because of this that the people of france questioned the king and began to want a change.this eventually leading up to louis own death during the reign of terror on the guillotine.

The second most important factor that contributed to the french revolution was. the taxes that oppressed only the third class and not the 1st and 2nd. the three taxes of lord tax, tidthe, and land tax, all created riots within France. this was because most of the third class was poor too begin with and because of the taxes applied by the king people were begining to starve they didn't have enough money to pay for food or shelter or didn't have any money at all. It was because that louis did not make the 1st and 2nd classes pay taxes that the people of france questioned whether or not louis should have this authority.

The final reason to why France began to struggle so severly was that there was a famine. people did not have enough money to pay for what food that was left. people in the 3rd class were killing and mugging people over the smallest portions of food. they had enough they were sitting there starving while they watched their lords feast on what left of the food and more. They could see that france needed a change. They were tired of louis reign as king and all of the taxes and all of the pain that came with him. so during the regn of terror they killed louis and tore down the bastille and began to change france however becoming the monster that they tried to get rid of. but as all this is happening france was still changing and becoming free and the people were gaining power. And soon they began to be able to get food and recover from the taxes that were from that deceased king.

What are some understandings of a nation?

I am going to first start with explaining what are the understandings of a nation. the understandings of a nation are sort of like the categories that a nation can be classified into. there are linguistic, religous, geographic, ethinic, cultural, and political understandings of a nation and for anyone who dosen't know what the meaning of a nation is. A nation is a group of people who share similarties and cultures. What i am trying to get at is that the understandings are sort of like the similarties that people share. for example say a isolated country was suddenly intoduced to the rest of the world. most likely these people will not seperate from each other and go and try to lern about the outside world individually they would stick together because they know each other and they each share similiar beliefs and cultures. Without even knowing it those people have formed a nation because they share the same understandings of a nation.

In the picture that hopefully was able to load onto my blog I posted a picture of a catholic church to show another example of a nation. This specific nation shares a religous understanding.
